  EL GRAN SILENCIO

The members of Bersuit met in 1987 at "The Old Avellenada Art House" (province of Buenos Aires) a meeting place for musicians and artists.

It was there that for the first time on stage they improvised versions of the songs "Hociquito de Raton (mouse's mouth)" and "Masturbacion en masa (mass masturbation)" One year later, the group was composed of five members: Gustavo Cordera (vocals), Carlos Martin (drums), Pepe Cespedes (Bass), Juan Subirá (keyboard) y Charly Bianco (Guitar). At that time the band had not adopted an official name, but would usually present themselves as "Henry and the Palangana". It was in May of '98 that they decided to officially call themselves Bersuit Vergarabat, coinciding precisely with the time that they began to surface in the circuit, playing in in Babylonia, Cemento and Condon Clu parties, among others. Steady into the 90's, Oscar Righi (electric guitar), Raul Pagano (keyboard) and Ruben Sabrinas (vocals) were incorporated into the group.

It was at that time that they recorded their debut album "Y Punto"(Period), which included a very good cover by Brazilian musician, Cazuza and brought them great response. A year later, in 1992, their second production was released under the title, "Asquerosa Alegria"(Disgusting Happiness). During that time, the group began to experience some internal changes, such as the drifting apart of Raul Pagano, Ruben Sabrinas, guitarist Charly Bianco, as well as the incorporation of Alberto Verenzuela. Among rumors of a possible separation, Bersuit entered the studio to record a new album, "Don Leopardo" (Mr. Leopald), which counted with the production of Pichon Dalpont. With the release of this album, Bersuit began to break ground within the musical scene, which included their participation in festivals, such as the Alternative festival in Ferro, the close of Buenos Aires Doesn't Sleep festival at Cenetenario Park, Mothers day festival in Ferro and the Grandmother festival at the May plaza.

During that same year the group executed 52 shows in numerous cities within the country, such as Rosario, Cordoba, Trelew, Puerto Madryn, Comodoro Rivadavia and the Atlantic Coast among others. In '98 Bersuit dedicated their time to the production of their fourth album, "Libertinaje", with Gustavo Santaolalla as creative producer, in conjunction with Anibal Kerpel, Pablo Guyot and Alfredo Toth. Double platinum in Argentina', "Libertinaje" marked the beginning of international success for the band. Bersuit began a period of concerts throughout Latin America, Spain and the United States. They joined the Watcha Tour in 1999, embarked on three successful tours throughout Spain (including their outrageous performance at the Festimad festival), visited Mexico on four different occasions in one year, played in Chile, Venezuela, Colombia, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru, Nicaragua and Guatemala. They closed off '99 with a massive, open-air concert in Buenos Aires in front of the obelisk, where fifty thousand fans joined them.

In the year 2000, "Hijos del Culo" was released, sparking a brand new chapter in the history of the band. Once again they reach double platinum for sales of their new album, while continuing to convoke public notice at a rapid rate.

During the middle of 2002, the group decide to resume their 10 year career on one live album and the result is "De La Cabeza con Bersuit" (triple platinum in Argentina) An album which reflects the group's best moment, the incredible energy of their concerts and the ongoing parties, sparked by the performance of el pelado Cordera's band. Recorded in the studios, Obras Sanitarias and at the Haedo Show Center, this project became the perfect excuse to initiate the "De la Cabeza con Bersuit" tour which spanned the entire country, along with concerts in Spain and the United States. Later came the sold out shows at Luna Park, as well as Bersuit Vergarabat's confirmation as one of the most important bands in the National Rock scene, reaching triple platinum status for sales of more than 120,000 copies of their live album. In 2004, they are faced with a new album and more satisfactions. During the month of January, Bersuit executed their most convoking performing in front of more than twenty thousand people at the Patinodromo during the Mar de Plata festival. "La Argentinidad al Palo", which in Argentina reached platinum status during its pre-sale was produced under Gustavo Santaolalla and recorded at Del Cielito studios during the months of November and December of 2003.

"La Argentinidad al Palo" reflects the incredible moments presently lived by the group. Composed by Cordera, Suarez and Sbarbati, "La Soledad" is the first single off their new production and is a song which manages to reach the heart, reflecting common feelings and emotions experienced by each and every one of us, while carrying the indisputable Bersuit seal.
